Malcolm,

The only links I have to this site are one on my static site, www.eliteseoeliteseo.com, that I don't even think has been up for a month yet, 2 squidoo sites that I put up this month and a linkein page that I put up on Sunday. The Squidoo sites and the linkedin page are not in Googles index yet. You can check this for yourself.

The only other things I did were 1. pulled an RSS feed from those above mentioned sites to add some content and 2. used All In One Service Pack so I could alter the meta tags.

I only did that last night though after the site was already on page one of Google.

My conclusion, which was my original suspicion, is that if you put up a relevant, well optimized, site, laser targeted for just 1, 2 or a few keywords you can rank high, quickly. Why wouldn't Google want to provide relevant content to those searching for it?

You probably linked to this brand new site from one of your establshed sites with a bit of juice - medium to high PageRank and plenty of backlinks. No big deal. I do the same thing all the time. Sometimes I can get a new site listed on the first page of Google within hours. And if you want to outrank someone, just check their backlinks and do better - get more and get higher PR ones. BTW Google recently said (Matt Cutts I think) that they didn't give any higher juice to .gov and .edu backlinks - contrary to popular belief. Cheers from Paris.
